Child Trafficking and child Labor

Human trafficking is more than simply moving someone from one location to another against their will, and more than forcing some one to work in poor conditions . The Save the children alliance’s working definition of Trafficking as follows: “ all acts of recruitment , purchase, sale, transfer, receipt or harboring of a person including a child and/or the applicable national laws of states parties) with in or across borders that involve the use of deception , coercion (including the use of threat of force or the abuse of authority ) or debt bondage , whether or not any payment is given or deceived, for the purpose of placing or holding such person in involuntary servitude (domestic, sexual or reproductive), in forced and bonded labor, in slavery like condition or false adoption.” Ethiopia is among countries highly affected by child and women trafficking. In response to this MCDP has taken the initiative to work on child trafficking and child labor since 1998.

Today the project incorporates working children who are specially victims of trafficking that originates in Southern Nations and Nationalities people’s Region (SNNPR) to Northern sector of Addis Ababa , Addis ketema sub city kebele 14/21. Due to the complexity of the problem MCDP extended its project to SNNPR, Gamogofa area, chencha woreda as a response to addressing the problem from the source since 2005..
